Book Alert: Let Them, Mel Robbins

I have to admit I avoided this book for awhile. It has a cult-like following and I wasn't sure I wanted to jump on that bandwagon. First I followed Mel on Instagram. Then I joined a "Let Them" Facebook group (which unfortunately was really just a bunch of women complaining and misusing the theory so I didn't stay in the group). So this week I downloaded the book on Audible, which is usually my first step. I have a pattern of listening to a book for awhile and if I end up loving it, I have to buy the actual, physical book (yes, I have a book problem!).

I will have to buy the physical book!

What really resonated with me was how simple Mel's theory is. Basically, if someone wants to do something — let them. You can't control, force, nag, complain others into what you want them to be. No matter how hard you try. So when someone says or does something that hits you in the gut, something hurtful or thoughtless, simply say "let them" to yourself.

  • Let them cancel.

  • Let them choose someone else.

  • Let them be inconsistent.

  • Let them think what they want.

Depending on how deeply you feel the situation, you might need to repeat "let them" a few times! Now what comes next in her theory is even more important. What will you do next? If we are honest with ourselves and a relationship matters, maybe there is something we can do moving forward (notice I said moving forward - there is no benefit to continuing to rehash this incident - "let them").

While “Let Them” is about releasing control over others, “Let Me” is about stepping into self-ownership. It’s a powerful permission slip to live fully as yourself — without guilt, hesitation, or waiting for others to agree.

  • Let me feel upset.

  • Let me disapoint someone instead of betraying myself.

  • Let me make plans with the people I value.

  • Let me be messy while I figure things out.

How might you use this theory in your life? I just started the book a couple days ago and I find myself saying "let them" so often! So don't be surprised if I start using it in our coaching sessions:)

Journal Prompts:

  • Who in my life am I trying to control, fix, or convince — and why?

  • What would it feel like to truly let them be who they are, without trying to change them?

  • What does “Let them” look like in action for me today?

  • Where in my life am I waiting for someone else's permission before taking action?

  • If I stopped trying to be “good” and started being honest, what would change?

  • What does giving myself full permission look like — in my relationships, work, or self-care?

  • How does my need for control reflect a lack of trust (in myself, others, or life)?

Affirmations:

  • Let me take up space — I belong here.

  • Let me speak my truth, even if my voice shakes.

  • Let me want what I want, without guilt.

  • Let me say no without explanation.

New Member Benefit Starts Tomorrow!

TheWeekly Draft

What is it? I have talked to some of you about how I set up my week every Sunday evening. During that time I write/reflect on how my previous week progressed — the things that went well, the things I wish I had accomplished — and I plan for me next week. I set my priorities and goals, I reflect on habits, I timeblock my calendar, etc.

So I would like to invite you all in to my planning space. I will open my personal zoom room every Sunday evening at 7pm for whoever wants to join me. We will co-work on setting up our weeks and have an accountability checkin for whoever needs it. Our first one will be on May 4. HERE is the link to join (hint: it’s my personal zoom link)

Retreat News

After some conversations with you all, I have decided to hold the retreat in January. I’m thinking of a Thursday evening/Friday morning arrival through Sunday morning. The dates are January 22-25, 2026.

My plan will be to spend the weekend in personal reflection. I will have a retreat workbook for all of you and we will do work on your vision and goals for the year—personal and professional. It will be a combination of workshops, individual work time, one-on-one time with me, all while enjoying time away to draft your year without the distractions of your every day lives.

I will include in the price breakfast, lunch, snacks and some beverages, with dinner on your own Friday and Saturday.

I will have all details worked out over the summer when I would like to have some confirmations and reserve a house at the beach (probably OBX but maybe VA Beach area). As far as cost, I am thinking in the range of $650-$950 depending upon how many people can commit (the more people, the lower the price). I will open it up for a select few non-members as well, but will give preference (and a discount) to Draft Lab members.

ACTION NEEDED!

I'm moving over to my new website fully by mid-June. That means that I will need to shift all of your auto payments over to the new platform. I will be sending you all individual emails with the date you should do this and the link to follow.

Office Hours:  Monday, May 19. This is for Basic Coaching Members as well as any Premier Coaching Members who would like to touch base between scheduled coaching appointments. HERE is the link to schedule a 30-minute slot

The Weekly Draft happens every Sunday evening (starting May 4) at 7pm at this link. Come prepared to reflect on your week and plan the week ahead.
