Stop Waiting for “Someday”

I came across this quote recently and wanted to dive in a little more.

I’ve noticed how easy it is to get caught in that pattern—always looking ahead to the “next thing” before we allow ourselves to enjoy where we are. I’ve done it myself, and I see it often in clients. We think joy is waiting for us at the next milestone, the next break, or the next season.

But here’s what I want you to pause and recognize: there was a time when the life you’re living right now is what you hoped for. The work you’ve done, the growth you’ve achieved, the people in your world—so much of it was once a wish, a draft of a future you were writing.

Gratitude is what helps us see it. It grounds us in the now, reminding us that happiness isn’t only a finish line to cross—it’s in the everyday moments we too often overlook.

This doesn’t mean we stop dreaming or planning ahead. Drafting your goals and vision for the future is still powerful. But it’s about balance—holding the future in one hand while giving yourself credit for how far you’ve already come in the other.

You don’t have to wait for Friday to feel joy. You don’t have to wait for the “right season” to celebrate progress. Happiness isn’t someday—it’s available today.

Journal Prompts:

  1. What is something in my life right now that I once wished or prayed for?

  2. Where am I tempted to rush ahead instead of noticing the joy that’s already here?

  3. How can I practice gratitude today without waiting for “someday”?

  4. If I could give my past self one message about where I am now, what would it be?

  5. Where in my life am I still “waiting for Friday,” and what would it look like to bring joy into that area today?

  6. How can I celebrate myself for how far I’ve come—without needing everything to be “finished”?

  7. If I imagined my current life through the eyes of my younger self, what would they be proud or excited about?

Affirmations:

  • I give myself permission to celebrate the season I am in.

  • I honor the progress I’ve made and the distance I’ve traveled.

  • Happiness is not out there—it is available to me here and now.

  • I am living in the middle of answered prayers and realized dreams.

  • I choose to see joy in today, while still drafting a vision for tomorrow.
