Enjoy the Moment

I am in a crazy, busy, stressful season right now that feels like it came on like a freight train! My impulse to control every detail has never been higher (well maybe it has, but it feels really strong right now).
My baby boy has been experiencing some BIG milestones in the past few months—last high school swim meet, senior prom, graduation, choosing a college—just to name a few. And in a few short months, we will be moving him into college.
It flew!
What I have been trying to do is soak it all in. Be present for every moment that’s happening, because I get to experience it all with him and watch him have his moments. I don’t want to be too stressed out to enjoy it. I don’t want to be so absorbed in planning the “perfect” graduation party, obsessing over getting the “perfect” prom pictures, and arranging for the “perfect” gifts for him and his friends. Of course I have to plan the party, take the pictures and buy the gifts. I just don’t have to obsess over them being perfect. I don’t have to control every minute detail.
I want to breathe.
I want to soak it all in.
Whether its momentous milestones or every day moments, wouldn’t it be a shame to spend them in your head, obsessing over everything? Just think of what you might miss! Whether your tendency is to replay past scenarios that you wish had been different, or you obsessively envision every detail of an upcoming event, you can ONLY control what’s happening right now. In the moment you’re in.
This takes practice. Practice stopping your unproductive thoughts and replacing them with a simple reminder to “let it go.” It takes catching yourself when you start to force or control a situation so it matches your inner vision of perfection. Be aware when you start to berate yourself for past mistakes. You are in control of your thoughts! Spending some time each day in meditation—simple moments of calm—where you focus only on your breath will train you for the moments you REALLY want to be present.
I have found that even though I struggle with my spinning thoughts, I do catch myself more often now. I remind myself to pause - breathe - take in the moment. Whether its a simple walk outside in the sunshine or my son’s graduation. I don’t want to miss a thing.
Journal Prompts:
What helps me feel calm and grounded, even on chaotic days?
Where do I feel the urge to control the most right now? Why?
What would "good enough" look like in this season?
What small, beautiful details did I notice today that I might have otherwise missed?
Where did I show up fully today, even if just for a moment?
What is my body telling me right now? How can I tend to it with gentleness?
What would happen if I let go of the need for everything to be perfect?
Affirmations:
“Right now is all I have—and it is a gift.”
“I slow down to feel the joy tucked into the ordinary.”
“Even in the chaos, I can find one thing to be still with.”
“I give myself permission to stop, breathe, and receive this moment fully.”
TheWeekly Draft
What is it? I have talked to some of you about how I set up my week every Sunday evening. During that time I write/reflect on how my previous week progressed — the things that went well, the things I wish I had accomplished — and I plan for my next week. I set my priorities and goals, I reflect on habits, I timeblock my calendar, etc.
So I would like to invite you all in to my planning space.
I will open my personal zoom room every Sunday evening at 7pm for whoever wants to join me. We will co-work on setting up our weeks and have an accountability checkin for whoever needs it. HERE is the link to join (hit: it’s my personal zoom link)
ACTION NEEDED!
I'm moving over to my new website fully by mid-June. That means that I will need to shift all of your auto payments over to the new platform. I will be sending you all individual emails with the date you should do this and the link to follow.
Office Hours: Monday, May 19. This is for Basic Coaching Members as well as any Premier Coaching Members who would like to touch base between scheduled coaching appointments. HERE is the link to schedule a 30-minute slot
